On Sunday 13^th June 2010 over 740 cyclists turned up to take part in the Tenth Anniversary celebrations of Orchid Cycle Essex. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped us organise the event and we hope that you all enjoyed the day and are extremely grateful for your support.

The weather was fairly kind to the riders with cool conditions early on as they braved the 20, 40, 75 and 100 mile routes. The first riders returned to the park mid morning and continued to swarm in under the Orchid arch until late into the afternoon. Cyclists were greeted with medals and certificates before being free to enjoy a guilt-free pint and burger and relax in the sunshine listening to our local bands.

Our first cyclo-sportive 100 mile rider to return was Ian Heather in a fantastic 5 hours 5 minutes and 45 seconds – well done! Congratulations to all our cyclo-sportive riders who finished the 100 mile course. To see a full list of results please click here.

Sending in your sponsorship

The money collected through registrations will just cover the costs of running the event. Orchid is therefore relying on your sponsorship to give a much needed contribution to our work to fight male cancers. We are hoping to raise over £45,000 from you and your sponsors.

Don’t forget the top fundraiser will win a free bike kindly donated by Herongate Cycles and our top ten fundraisers will all receive a prize. There are also free t-shirts for all fundraisers on receipt of your sponsorship so please start sending in your donations.

Cheques – please make cheques payable to ‘Orchid’ and send them in along with your name and the event name ‘Orchid Cycle Essex’.
Cash – Please do not send in cash through the post.  Please cash it into your bank account and send us a cheque for the full amount.
Gift Aid – If sending in money that can be gift aided then please ensure you send the sponsor form with full details of your donations and we will then calculate the gift aid for you.

Orchid would like to thank all those who helped us organise this fantastic event. We would like to make a special mention to Mark Stanbury from Essex Roads Cycling Club who had the idea for the ride back in 2001 and hasn’t looked back since. We are so grateful for the dedication and commitment of Mark and everyone from Essex Roads Cycling Club. Thanks also to all our wonderfully friendly and informative marshals, registrations volunteers and to everyone involved with all the signage.

We would also like to thank Lake Meadows Park, Billericay Round Table, Herongate Cycles, Essex Ford, Essex & Suffolk Water, Brentwood Brewing Company and Sainsbury’s. Thanks to everyone for making it such a successful event and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
