Former testicular cancer patient prepares to take on another massive challenge
Keen adventurer Paul Walkington is preparing to climb Mount Baruntse at 7129 metres (23,388ft), located deep in the heart of the Nepalese Himalayas, just a year after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Heading out to Kathmandu on Saturday 11th October for a five-week long expedition after months of training, Paul is excited about the challenge ahead. With a fundraising target of £2,500 Paul is keen to make more people aware of the three male cancers through this expedition and has generated plenty of media coverage.

Congratulations to our 22 runners who braved the driving rain on Sunday 5th October and completed the very first Run to the Beat Half Marathon in Greenwich, South London. With live music selected specially and played throughout the course to scientifically boost performance, this exciting new half marathon was an instant sell out for the organisers when places went on sale back in April.
Despite the pouring rain and problems for runners getting to the start because of London Underground issues, it was a great success and will sure to be another hit for 2009. If you’re interested in running for us next year email events@orchid-cancer.org.uk now. Congratulations to all of our runners who have so far raised an impressive £6,000 with plenty more to come in.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Weston Park stately home, in the countryside just outside of Norwich, this black tie event looks set to be a fabulous occasion. With exciting entertainment including five bands playing a range of jazz, swing, punk rock and a string quarter, there’s also two DJs, fine cuisine and a fun casino to keep you going well into the night and it’s all in the name of fun and fund-raising.
All of the profits are donated to two charities and Orchid is delighted to have been chosen as one of this year’s beneficiaries. Tickets are priced at just £25 per ticket and to purchase tickets and for further information about the event, please visit www.bananafudgestudios.co.uk/FallBall2008.htm

Major charity auction events are elegant, extravagant, exciting occasions. The lots – large and small – are luxurious, lavish and indulgent. Sometimes they’re absolute one-offs.
After the event some buyers can’t redeem their purchases. Buy Once Give Twice gets buyers to re-donate such items and re-sells them online, for charity. Orchid has teamed up with Buy Once Give Twice to offer our supporters the opportunity to purchase some fabulous lots second hand with additional funds going to Orchid – we take 90% of the price paid for any item.
In a nutshell, it’s a top-quality, full-time, online charity auction. It’s great for buyers (there are some truly lovely things for sale), and it’s great for Orchid. To find out more please visit buyoncegivetwice.co.uk
